Text: Linear Algebra by Michael Stecher

Prerequisite: Math 220 and second semester calculus or their equivalents.

I plan to cover most of the text's first six chapters, and may, if time permits, introduce some additional material. A more detailed syllabus is shown in the table below.

We will have a two exams worth 100 points each, quizzes also worth 100 points, and a final exam worth 150 points for a total of 450 points. Course grades will be determined in the usual manner. That is, an A is 90%, a B is 80%, etc.

The final exam for section 501 is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 12^th at 3:30 PM, and section 502's final exam is set for Tuesday, Dec. 13^th at 10:30 AM.

The following is a tentative weekly schedule of when we will cover a particular topic this semester. Additional material will be included, and some of the material below may not be covered. If you miss class, be sure to find out what was covered that day(s). The exam dates shown below are tentative; do not assume that they are set in stone. The exact exam time of any exam is a function of where we are in the course.

I cannot stress this strongly enough; mathematics is neither learned nor understood by watching. You have to roll up your sleeves and work many exercises. One last comment: READ THE TEXT, and WORK SUGGESTED EXERCISES. Actually, as far as the suggested exercises are concerned, you should look at all of them, and try to solve the ones whose answers you don't know. If you can't work an exercise, ask questions in class.
