Projects

All students are required to do three projects, one of which will be to set up your own web page. All projects must be cleared with me before you start on it.

  1. Your first project, which is due Monday, July 19th, is to produce a biographical account, in LaTeX, of some mathematician. The document must contain a fair amount of mathematical syntax, at least one image, and one table. The thrust of the paper is to be the mathematical work of the person you are writing about. The paper should be at least 5 single spaced pages with a font size of 10 or 11. I will grade the paper not only on its content, but also your LaTeX formatting abilities, exposition, and grammar.

  2. Your second project is due Monday, August 2nd. This project is to prepare a lecture about some aspect of caculus. Your lecture must incorporate a Maple demo which aids the exposition. I want you to turn in a LaTeX document which is a hardcopy of your lecture, the Maple worksheet of the Maple aspect of your lecture, and you will also be asked to deliever the lecture to the class during the week of August 2 nd.

  3. Your third project is to design your own web page. This page must contain links to your previous projects. There should be two links to the first project, one to the .ps file and a second link to the .tex file. Your web page should also contain a link to several web pages. Ones that you find of interest; an explanation of why they are of interest to you should also be included. I also want you to have at least one graphic on your web page(s), and be sure you use that alt tag in anything which is not text. To encourage you to use the alt option I will deduct 5 points for each occasion it is not used.

You will need to e-mail me the URL for your web page by 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 9.
