Syllabus for Math 696

Math 696, Section 200

Instructor: Michael Stecher

Office: Milner 126, 845-3269, stecher@math.tamu.edu http://www.math.tamu.edu/~stecher/Mathcomm/index-comm.html

Office Hours: Monday through Thursday from 1:00 pm. until 2:00 pm.

We will be meeting in Blocker 131 Monday through Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.

I strongly suggest that you buy the text The LaTeX Companion by Goossens et. al, and the Calclabs with MapleV manual which we use in our engineering calculus sequence. A book which gives a detailed account of how to put graphics into a LaTeX document is The LaTeX Graphics Companion by Goossens, Rahtz, and Mittelbach. The original text on LaTeX, LaTeX A User's Guide and Reference Manual by Leslie Lamport is a necessity for beginners.

I do not plan on handing out any paper. All materials and instructions will be found on the web pages for this course. Be sure to check it often.

The following is a tentative weekly schedule of what we will be covering and when.

Week of July 5: Unix, LaTeX

Week of July 12: LaTeX

Week of July 19: LaTex and Maple

Week of July 26: Maple and HTML

Week of August 2: HTML

The course will consist of weekly assignments and projects (three projects). The projects will be worth 80 percent of your grade, and the weekly assignments 20 percent. Late work will not be accepted with out a good reason. Being busy is not a good reason.
