Homework
- Assignment 1
(due Tuesday, 9/8, at the start of class).
- Assignment 2 (due 9/15):
- Sect. 1.2, pp. 60-62, # 1, 2, 8, 10, 16, 28, 36, 46, 56
- Sect. 1.3, pp. 68, 69, # 5, 8, 18, 24, 26, 31, 35
- Sect. 2.1, pp. 78, 79, # 4, 8
- Sect. 2.2, pp. 89-91, # 2, 4, 8, 14, 16, 18, 26
- Homework 3, due 9/22:
- Sect. 2.4, pp. 110, 111, # 2, 4, 11, 12, 16, 17, 25, 33
- Sect. 2.3, pp. 99-101, # 2, 8, 13, 14, 21, 22, 29, 36,
40, 48, 54, 66, 71
- Notes: I'm listing the sections in the order that I'll
lecture on them. For the problems in section 2.3, you must use the
limit laws, as in the examples of section 2.3. You won't get credit for
plugging numbers into your calculator and guessing the limit the way we
did in section 2.2.
- Suggested problems for exam 1 (not to be turned in!) Next
Tuesday's exam will cover appendices A, B, D,
sections 1 and 2 of the Review and Preview chapter, and chapters 1
and 2. In section 2.4, memorize definition (2) on page 102, and be
able to use it in proofs. Don't worry about the formal definitions
of one-sided limits or infinite limits in this section, however. I
will run a review session Sunday afternoon from 2 to 5 in BLOC
160. In that, I will outline the material you will be responsible
for, basing my review on homework problems, and the old exam
posted on our web site. I need your bluebooks before the day of the
exam!
