Text:. Manfredo P. Do Carmo, Differential geometry of curves and sufaces, Prentice Hall, 1976

Course Description. We will closely follow Chapters 1-4 of Do Carmo's book: Curves, Regular Surfaces, The geometry of the Gauss map, The intrinsic geometry of surfaces.

Prerequisite: Vector Calculus.

Grading. Your grade will be determined by weekly home assignments (30%) due on Tuesday of each week, by two mid-term exams (20% each) and cumulative final exam (30%). All exams will be take-home exams. The grade will be given according to the following percentage:

85%-100%=A, 75%-84%=B , 65%-74%=C, 55%-64%=D, less than 55%=F

Tentaive dates of exams:

Mid-term exam I: Tue 2/24, Take home, due Thur 2/26 in class;

Mid-term exam II: Tue 3/31, Take home, due Thur 4/2 in class.
