Student Working Seminar in Groups and Dynamics
Time: 1:00PM - 2:00PM
Location: BLOC 628
Speaker: Amanda Hoisington
Title: Coarse embeddings under group extensions II
Abstract: I will be going over a paper by Arzhantseva and Tessera (2017) which proves, by construction, that admitting a coarse embedding into Hilbert space is not preserved under group extension.
Noncommutative Geometry Seminar
Time: 2:00PM - 3:00PM
Location: BLOC 628
Speaker: Quanlei Fang, The City University of New York
Title: Revisiting Arveson’s Dirac operator of a commuting tuple
Abstract: About twenty years ago, Arveson introduced an abstract Dirac operator based on Taylor spectrum and functional calculus. He showed that every Dirac operator is associated with a commuting tuple. The Dirac operator of a commuting tuple has inspired several interesting problems in multivariable operator theory. In this talk, we will revisit the Dirac operator and discuss some related problems.
Graduate Student Organization Seminar
Time: 4:00PM - 5:00PM
Location: BLOC 628
Speaker: Jintao Deng
Title: Some concepts in Coarse Geometry
Abstract: Coarse geometry is a subject to study metric spaces at large scale. In this talk, I will talk about some basic concepts in coarse geometry. I will also talk about some invariants under coarse equivalences between metric spaces.
