Student Working Seminar in Groups and Dynamics

iCal  iCal

Time: 3:00PM - 4:00PM

Location: BLOC 111

Speaker: Konrad Wrobel

Title: Coamenable Inclusions of Inner Amenable Groupoids

Abstract: Coamenability of groups has been extensively studied since the 60's. We define coamenability of an inclusion of measured groupoids and show inner amenability is preserved under such inclusions.

Working Seminar on Quantum Computation and Quantum Information

iCal  iCal

Time: 3:30PM - 4:30PM

Location: BLOC 506A

Speaker: Xiaoyu Su, TAMU MATH

Title: The quantum double of a finite group

Students Working Seminar in Number Theory

iCal  iCal

Time: 4:00PM - 5:00PM

Location: Bloc605ax

Speaker: Wei-Cheng Huang, Texas A&M University

Title: Non-vanishing property of Multiple Zeta Values in function fields

Abstract: Multiple Zeta Values (MZVs) are interesting special values for number theorists. In this talk, I will give an introduction to MZVs in function fields and follow Thakur's method (2009) to prove that they are non-vanishing.

AMUSE

iCal  iCal

Time: 6:00PM - 7:00PM

Location: BLOC 220

Speaker: Peter Jantsch, Texas A&M University

Title: Big Problems, Small Solutions

Abstract: An interesting characteristic of many problems in applied math is the presence of some underlying structure which can be exploited to provide simple approximations of highly complex relationships. In this talk, we look at some examples of this in several different areas, from image compression to uncertainty quantification.
