**Title: ***Stationary distribution of stochastically modelled reaction networks*

**Abstract: **Reaction networks are commonly used to model a variety of physical systems from the microscopic world like cell biology and chemistry, to the macroscopic world like epidemiology and evolution biology. They are commonly modelled by either a deterministic ODEs model, or a stochastic continuous time Markov chain model. In this talk I will discuss several results related to stationary distribution of stochastically modelled reaction networks. In particular, I will talk about a class of reaction networks whose stationary distribution can be found explicitly. Moreover, I will discuss another class of reaction networks whose existence of a stationary distribution can be guaranteed by the Foster-Lyapunov criterion.

## Groups and Dynamics Seminar

**Title: ***Groups with bounded generation: old and new*

**Abstract: **A group is said to have bounded generation (BG) if it is a finite product of cyclic subgroups. We will survey the known examples of groups with (BG) and their properties. We will then report on a recent result (joint with P. Corvaja, J. Ren and U. Zannier) that non-virtually abelian anisotropic linear groups (i. e. those consisting entirely of semi-simple elements) are not boundedly generated. The proofs rely on number-theoretic techniques.
