Title: Fusion Categories and their Applications.
Abstract: Fusion categories are algebraic gadgets which behave a lot like the representation theory of a finite group. Just like groups, fusion categories have a myriad of applications throughout mathematics and physics. In this talk I will describe how fusion categories naturally appear in quantum field theory, and in operator algebras. Further I will show how fusion category techniques can be used to solve open problems in these research areas.
