Ronald Douglas, Distinguished Professor of Mathematics, has been invited to receive the degree Doctor of Mathematics honoris causa from the University of Waterloo on Friday, June 18, 2010.

The citation reads:

"It would be our honour to recognize your outstanding contributions to the field of functional analysis. As a major figure in functional analysis, you introduced methods of algebraic topology that were some of the most revolutionary advances in operator theory. These methods now form a central cornerstone of the theory and injected the entire area with a new vitality that has persisted to the present day. Your long history of service to the mathematics community and contributions to the advancement of mathematics in many capacities through the American Mathematical Society (AMS), the US National Science Foundation, and other venues are truly remarkable."
