Prerequisites
-
MATH 308 or Math 451 or approval of instructor.
Homeworks
-
Homework will be assigned here each class meeting more or less and due dates will be announced when the homeworks are assigned. I will assign several problems, only some of which will be graded. It is possible that quizzes may be given instead of grading assigned homeworks. Late work will not be accepted without prior permission and/or a university-mandated excuse for the absence. However, if, for a legitimate reason you miss an assignment, I will simply drop the grade from your score. Students asking for extensions of assignment due dates should let me know of any conflicts at least one week beforehand in the case of prescheduled absences and as soon as possible (but in no case more than two working days after the absence) in cases where the absence is not foreseeable. Written documentation may also be requested.
Grading Policy:
- Your grade will be based on homeworks/quizzes, one mid-term and a final exam. The homework/quizzes will count for 20% of your grade, mid term 40% and the non-comprehensive final exam for 40%. Your letter grade for the semester will be A, B, C, or D, for averages of minimum 90%, 80%, 70%, or 60%, respectively.
Exam Schedule:
- Midterm June 27th, Thursday 12:00 pm (noon) - 1:25 pm in the classroom
Final: 1:00-3:00 pm on Wednesday, 7th August (as per Current University schedule).
Make-up Policy:
-
I will give make-ups (or satisfactory equivalents) only in cases authorized under TAMU Regulations. In borderline cases, I will decide whether or not the excuse is authorized. Also, if you miss a test, contact me as soon as
possible. For University Regulations. See
http://student-rules.tamu.edu and in particular
http://student-rules.tamu.edu/rule7.htm
Bluebooks
- I need two 8 sheet bluebooks (11" by 8.5") from everyone before the first exam, preferably by the end of first week of classes. Do not write your name on these. I will hand these out for use during the exams.
Cheating
- I take this very seriously, and will prosecute any case that I think I can prove. Scholastic dishonesty procedures will be rigorously enforced.
Identification:
- You must have your ID with you at all exams.
Attendance and late work:
- Attendance is required and rolls may be taken. Please come to the class on time and do not leave early. You are responsible for all lecture material and announcements made in class. Legitimate reasons for missing a class include illness, illness or death of a family member, participation in university-authorized activities, and major religious holidays. Please see http://student-rules.tamu.edu/rule07 for the full university policy.
Classroom decorum:
- Students are expected to be attentive and courteous during class. During class, please put away newspapers, turn off cell phones, and refrain from using laptops or other electronic devices except for note-taking purposes. During the time I am lecturing, reading/browsing or simply looking at any material incuding textbooks is strictly prohibited unless I ask you to do so. Any violation of any of these rules will hurt your grade by at least one letter grade, taking your grade down to F in the worse situation regardless of how you perform in the exams.
Disabilities:
-
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a federal anti-discrimination statute that provides comprehensive civil rights protection for persons with disabilities. Among other things, this legislation requires that all students with disabilities be guaranteed a learning environment that provides for reasonable accommodation of their disabilities. If you believe you have a disability requiring an accommodation, please contact the Department of Disability Services, 701 West Campus Blvd, or call 845-1637. For additional information visit https://disability.tamu.edu.
Aggie Honor Code:
-
An Aggie does not lie, cheat, or steal or tolerate those who do.
Students are advised to see Honor Council Rules and Procedures on the
web http://www.tamu.edu/aggiehonor
Copyright Laws etc.
- All printed and web materials are protected by copyright laws.
-
The handouts used in this course are copyrighted. By "handouts", I mean all materials generated for this class which include but are not limited to syllabi, quizzes, exams, lab problems, in-class materials, review sheets,
and additional problem sets. Because these materials are copyrighted, you do not have the right to copy
the handouts, unless I expressly grant permission.
-
As commonly defined, plagiarism consists of passing off as one's own ideas, words, writings, etc., which belong to another. In accordance with this definition, you are committing plagiarism if you copy the work of another person and turn it as your own even if you should have the permission of that person. Plagiarism is one of the worst academic sins, for the plagiarist destroys the trust among colleagues without which research can not be safely communicated.
-
If you have any questions regarding plagiarism, please consult issue of the Texas A&M University Student Rules, under section "Scholastic Dishonesty".
