Final Exam Review — Math 401-501/502 (Spring 2013)

General Information

The final exams for section 501 (9:35 class) and for section 502 (12:45 class) will be, respectively, Friday, 5/3/13, from 12:30-2:30 pm and Wednesday, 5/8/13, from 8-10 am. Each final will be held in the usual room used for the class (9:35 - RICH 114 and 12:45 ARCC 207). The test will have 5 to 8 questions, some with multiple parts. There will be some choice in the problems to be worked. The problems themselves will be similar to those on previous tests (see eLearn for the keys to Tests 1 & 2), homework problems, examples done in class, and other related examples from Fulling's notes or Constanda's text. My office hours for this week and next are as follows: Wednesday (5/1/13), 11-1:30; Thursday (5/2/13), 11-12 and 2-3. There will be no office hours on Friday. Next week, they are Monday (5/6/13), 10-12 and 2-3; Tuesday (5/7/13), 2-3.

Calculators: You may use scientific calculators to do numerical calculations — logs, exponentials, and so on. You may not use any calculator that has the capability of doing algebra or calculus, or of storing course material.

Other devices: You may not use cell phones, computers, or any other device capable of storing, sending, or receiving information.

Formulas: You will be given a table of Fourier transforms (Table A.2, plus a couple more), and a few integrals.

Coverage: The test will be cumulative.

Topics Covered

Perturbation Theory. See the review sheet for Test 1.

Fourier series, separation of variables, Fourier transforms and solving PDEs. See the review sheet for Test 2.
