Course description and prerequisites:
Classification of linear partial differential equations of the second order. Method of characteristics and first-order equations. Fourier series, orthogonal functions, applications to partial differential equations; special functions, Sturm-Liouville theory, application to boundary value problems' introduction to Green's functions, finite Fourier transforms. Prerequisites: MATH 308.

is no real difference in the 4th and 5th edition but I will only post
the homework for the 5th edition online.

Grading policy: 30%
will be determined by the homework assignments (assignments turned in
late not accepted).
20% will be determined by each midterm and
30% by the final exam.
Your MINIMUM grade will be A, B,
C, or D, for averages of 90%, 75%, 60%, or 45%, respectively.
Midterm I exam date: September 21, 2022;
Midterm II exam date: October 24, 2022;
Final exam date: December 13, 2022, 8:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m.
Make-Up Policy: Make-ups for exams will only be given with documented University-approved excuses (see University Regulations). Consistent with University Student Rules, students are required to notify an instructor by the end of the next working day after missing an exam. Otherwise, they forfeit their rights to a make-up. Ignorance of the time and place of an exam will not be accepted as an excuse for absence.
