1.  INTRODUCTORY REMARKS ON "CURVE-SKETCHING":  We will 
concentrate on examples and try to skip the theoretical chatter.  
In keeping with the spirit of the Coalition, the teams will do 
the examples, not the instructor.  So they will be true RATs:  If 
you don't seem to be ready, I will go back to the theory.  NO 
COMPUTERS OR GRAPHING CALCULATORS! (We are not doing Rosie Ruiz 
sketching this week.) 

2.  Absolute maximum and minimum values of a function on an 
interval.

    A.  Activity-RAT: Find the maximum and minimum values of 
    f(x) = (16 - x^2)^{1/2} on the domain [-1, 2].  

    B.  If necessary, show slides with definitions.
IT WAS NOT NECESSARY.  NOTE:  HERE AND ELSEWHERE TILL THE END OF 
THE SEMESTER, DETAILS OF THE CONTENTS OF MY PREPARED SLIDES ARE 
NOT PROVIDED HERE, SINCE I HOPE TO PUT THAT MATERIAL ON THE WEB 
EVENTUALLY.
