                              Day 7.3


    1.  Do the postponed part 2C from day 6.2 (relation of chain 
    rule to change of units). 

    2.  Related rates (applications (= word problems) involving 
    chain rule and implicit differentiation)

        A.  Sliding ladder problem.  How fast is the top moving 
        when it hits the ground?  Do you believe this answer?  
        Investigate experimentally.  Models can fail outside 
        their domain of validity.

        B.  The standard warning:  Do not substitute particular 
        numbers for variables until after differentiating.

        C.  Give students time to prepare for the jigsaw.

        D.  Start the jigsaw if time permits.  (Audience = old 
        team.  If 2 people were on same team both times, may swap 
        a member with an old team in the same position, or join 
        an old team with only 3 members.)
THEY HAD TIME TO DISCUSS ONE PROBLEM, I THINK.

        E.  Identify especially troublesome problems that deserve 
        the attention of the whole class.
