The Polygon Differencing Problem

  1. Pick a regular polygon (eg a square) and put a non-negative integer at each vertex.
  2. Put the differences at the midpoint of each side.
  3. If you connect the midpoints, you have a new polygon with a non-negative integer at each vertex.
  4. Repeat this process. What are the final states?
