Spring 2013 guidelines for reflective essay

Part of every job is to pause periodically to reflect on what you have accomplished, what changes you should make, and what your goals are. Your task is to write a reflective essay about your experience as a math major at Texas A&M University. Here are some possible topics:

  • Why are you a math major?
  • What is the most important lesson you have learned as a math major?
  • What could be done to improve the experience for math majors at Texas A&M?
  • What has been your most memorable experience as a math major?
  • What is your career plan, and why?

You may choose a different topic that is in the same spirit as the preceding ones.

Your essay, composed in LaTeX, should be about 300 words. (For this essay, you will not need the fancy features of LaTeX for formatting mathematics. The reason for using LaTeX for this paper is to get familiar with the mechanics of LaTeX, since you will be using LaTeX for the technical paper later.)

Since this essay is based on your personal experience, you probably do not need to include a bibliography. But if you do borrow some ideas from external sources, then be sure to document your sources to avoid plagiarism.
