Office: Milner 303 | Course Content: | This is a four credit course, and it will cover the following topics: Vectors, functions, limits, derivatives, inverse functions, Mean Value Theorem, applications of derivatives, integralsm and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. There will also be some work in a computer laboratory (with Maple). |
| Prerequisite: | MATH 150 or satisfactory performance on a qualifying examination. Credit will not be given for more than one of MATH 131, 142, 151, and 171. |
| Calculator: | Some of you may find such a device helpful, particularly for graphing or involved calculations, and for some graphs on the homework. If you have one, do learn to use it; if you do not have one you might not absolutely need one. No problem on any test will require a calculator, and so no such external aids allowed on exams. No student at your level should need mechanical help for simple algebraic manipulation. |

| Grading You will be expected to attend all class meetings; I do keep track of such matters. There will be three in-term exams (each worth 15% toward your final grade) and the final exam will be worth 30%. The remaining 25% will be Homework, attendance, and the Maple labs. |

Homework
Homework will be collected at least on Thursdays; at times there will be some problems due on Tuesday, which Frank will grade.
Late homeworks are not accepted. It may not be possible to mark all problems assigned. A few of the problems will be corrected and graded each week. Nevertheless, for your own benefit, you will be required to hand in all the assigned problems. Your score will be based partially upon completing all assigned problems and partially upon the marks obtained in the problems which are marked by the grader. The two lowest homework scores will be dropped before computing your grade.

Maple Homework: Do the problems at the bottom of the tutorials on plotting and solving. (Look up the term Fixed Point in our text.) Due dates to be anounced.
