Title: Exchangeability, conditional expectations onto tail algebras and quantum symmetric states
Abstract: We consider the notion of exchangeable random variables and exchangeable representations of a C*-algebra in noncommutative probability theory. There is always a conditional expectation onto the tail von Neumann algebra, and we investigate when there is a normal conditional expectation. A de Finetti theorem (implying freeness over the tail algebra) holds for quantum exchangeable representations, and this leads to characterization of quantum symmetric states in terms of amalgamated free products of C*-algebras. (Joint work with Claus Koestler and John Williams).
