Outreach programs

The Department of Mathematics is proud to support the following activities geared towards diverse audiences, as well as numerous activities for undergraduate students that take place outside the regular classroom setting.

General public

Mathematics and Statistics Fair
The Mathematics and Statistics Departments host an annual fair to showcase the fun and beauty of our fields. We have games, puzzles, arts and crafts, talks and more. Fun for the whole family. This fair is held as a precursor for Mathematics and Statistics Awareness Month.

High school students

High School Mathematics Contest
The Mathematics Department hosts an annual math contest for high school students. For information contact the faculty sponsor, Oksana Shatalov or the administrator Donna Hoffman.

Summer Math Research Training
SMaRT Camp is a two-week summer program for gifted high school students selected on a national basis.

The Derivative Bee
Each spring the Math Department runs a Math contest for all students to see who can compute derivatives accurately and fastest. All derivatives are at the level of first semester calculus. It is open to high school and college students. For information contact the faculty sponsor, David Manuel.

The Integral Bee
Each spring the Math Department runs a Math contest for all students to see who can compute integrals accurately and fastest. All integrals are at the level of second semester calculus. It is open to high school and college students. For information contact the faculty sponsor, David Manuel.

Middle school students

Summer Educational Enrichment in Math
SEE-Math is a two-week summer camp for gifted and honors level math students entering 6th, 7th or 8th grades. For information contact the faculty sponsor, Philip Yasskin or the administrator Donna Hoffman.

TAMU Math Circle
The TAMU Math Circle is a weekly gathering of 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade math students from the Brazos Valley to do interesting and fun math activities with faculty from our Math Department. Middle and high school teachers

AP Calculus Institute

Teacher Quality Grant Program

Math Instructional Coaches Program
We provide professional development to schools through their grants or other contractual services with them. For information contact the faculty sponsor, Sandra Nite.

Brazos Valley Math Teachers' Circle
The Brazos Valley Math Teachers' Circle is an organization of Math Faculty and High School and Middle School Teachers who get together periodically to do interesting and fun math activities. For information contact the faculty sponsor, Philip Yasskin.
