Title: Toric varieties, higher duals and lattice polytopes (Colloquium)

Abstract: I will present an overview of joint work with S. di Rocco, B. Nill, R. Piene, A. Rittatore, and M. Vergne on the description of  duals of toric varieties and their relation with the associated polytopes/lattice configurations. The interplay between algebraic geometry and combinatorics allows us to prove algebro-geometric statements with combinatorial tools and combinatorial statements with algebro-geometric tools.
