Title: The two interesting examples of computation of spectrum of groups of intermediate growth.
Abstract: This is supposed to be easy (for the audience) talk. I will begin with some general remarks about random walks on groups, and the role of the spectrum of the discrete Laplace operator. Then I will explain the computation of the spectrum of the Cayley graph of a group of intermediate growth constructed by me in 1980. It is based on the use of the spectrum of associated Schreier graph and on the computation of a joint spectrum of the pencil of operators associated with the regular representation of the infinite dihedral group. Then I will explain the second example based on the so called overgroup of intermediate growth. Also I may mention the appearance of the apeariodic order in the related topics. The talk is based on joint results (old and new) of the speaker and Artem Dudko, Laurent Bartholdi and Rongwei Yang (and Danial Lenz and Tatiana Nagnibeda if the time permit).
