- Solutions of some selected problems
from the midterm exam 3 that might be relevant to your final exam were
sent to you by email. I would like to stress again that I will not ask
to solve the heat equation as in Problem 7 and the Laplace equation on
a rectangle as in problem 8, and I will ask to solve two other types of
equations: the one-dimensional wave equation and the Laplace equation
on a circle. However I recommend you to review the solutions of
problems 7 and 8 as well, because it may help to improve your
understanding of the method of separation of variables.
- Solutions of problems 1 and 2 of homework #12 that are important for the final test are posted here
- Solutions of some selected problems from the

Since we did not complete all material needed to solve
hmwk #5 (we did not discuss how to check linear independence of the set
of functions via the Wronskian and also material of section 3.5) I
suggest you two options for submission of hmwk # 5 with the possibility
to earn an extra credit if you submit it earlier:
Option 1: Submit it on Monday,
February 25. In this case I will add to your grade after the grading
extra 10% of this grade (for example, if after the grading your grade
will be 100, I will add extra 10 points to it; if after the grading
your grade will be 80, I will add extra 8 points to it).
Option 2: Submit it on Wednesday, February 27, then extra 10% will not be added to your grade.

Since we did not complete all material needed to solve
hmwk #4 (namely we did not discuss spanning sets) I suggest you two
options for submission of hmwk #4 with the possibility to earn an extra credit if you submit it earlier:
Option 1. Submit it on Friday,
February 15. In this case I will add to your grade after the grading
extra 5% of this grade (for example, if after the
grading your grade will be 100, I will add extra 5 points to it; if
after the grading your grade will be 80, I will add extra 4 points to
it). Note that you
also have 20 pts bonus there so the maximal grade you can get, if you do all bonus questions and submit it on Friday is 126.
Option 2. Submit
it on Monday, February 18, then extra 5% will not be added to your
grade and maximum grade you can get in this case is 120.
