Outreach programs

The Department of Mathematics is proud to support the following activitiess geared towards diverse audiences, as well as numerous activities for undergraduate students that take place outside the regular classroom setting.

General public

Mathematics and Statistics Fair
The Mathematics and Statistics Departments host an annual fair to showcase the fun and beauty of our fields. We have games, puzzles, arts and crafts, talks and more. Fun and free for the whole family. For information contact the faculty sponsor, Dr. John Weeks or the administrator Jeremy Kubiak.

High school students

High School Mathematics Contest
The Mathematics Department hosts an annual math contest for high school students. For information contact the faculty sponsor, Dr. Igor Zelenko or the administrators Cara Barton and Jeremy Kubiak.

PReMa (Program for Research in Mathematics)
PReMa (Program for Research in Mathematics) is a free opportunity for self-motivated high school students to conduct individual or group research projects guided by academic mentors from the Texas A&M mathematics department. The goal is to expose students to the beauty and intricacy of interesting mathematics, as well as to allow them to get hands-on experience with all aspects of mathematical research. Furthermore, we aim to foster friendships and collaborations by bringing together students who share a passion for mathematics. For information contact the faculty sponsor, Dr. Kun Wang.

TAMU Math Circle
The TAMU Math Circle is a weekly gathering of gifted 5th-12th grade math students from the Brazos Valley during the academic year. Any student who is interested in mathematics is welcome. We do interesting and fun math activities lead by faculty and grad students from our Math Department or visiting from other Universities. Registration is required at mathcircle.tamu.edu. The Derivative Bee
Each spring the Math Department runs a Math contest for all students to see who can compute derivatives accurately and fastest. All derivatives are at the level of first semester calculus. It is open to high school and college students. For information contact the faculty sponsor, David Manuel.

The Integral Bee
Each spring the Math Department runs a Math contest for all students to see who can compute integrals accurately and fastest. All integrals are at the level of second semester calculus. It is open to high school and college students. For information contact the faculty sponsor, David Manuel.

Summer Math Research Training
SMaRT Camp is a two-week summer program for gifted high school students selected on a national basis. For information contact the faculty sponsors, Dr. Oksana Shatalov or Dr. Peter Kuchment.

Middle school students

Summer Educational Enrichment in Math
SEE-Math is a two-week summer camp for gifted and honors level math students entering 6th, 7th or 8th grades. For information contact the faculty sponsor, Dr. Philip Yasskin or the administrator Jeremy Kubiak.

TAMU Math Circle

Brazos Valley Math Teachers' Circle
