Overview
Overview
Thanks to support from the National Science Foundation, the Department of Mathematics at Texas A&M will host an eight-week Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) from (note change) June 3 to July 26 in the summer of 2013. Participants will have the choice of various programs, such as number theory, the mathematical modeling in biology, and algorithmic algebraic geometry. We expect five student participants for each program. Students from groups under-represented in mathematical research are especially encouraged to apply.

Eligibility
Applicants should be highly motivated and successful undergraduates who are comfortable with basic matrix manipulations and elementary linear algebra. Students in the mathematical modeling in biology program should have some background in differential equations. Students interested in pursuing statistical modeling in these areas should also have had an introductory statistics course. No special prior experience with mathematical software or computers is required. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents and must not have received their bachelors degree before the start of the summer program.
Stipend and Support
Participating students will be provided free on-campus housing, along with an anticipated stipend of $3500 for the 8 week program plus subsidized travel to and from College Station.
Application Instructions and Deadlines
--The application period for 2013 has closed--
Interested students should fill out the application form (no longer available) , send us a copy of their grade transcripts
(an unofficial copy is fine provided it has the student's name,
the institution name, and it is in PDF format), and arrange for two
letters of recommendation to be sent directly to us. These
recommendation letters should come from faculty who are familiar with
the student's work. The transcripts and recommendation letters (PDF
format preferred) should be sent to
